Meeting people at the gym is a great way to get fit and make new friends.

Meeting people is fun - so get off the couch! Unfortunately, new and interesting people will not materialise themselves in your front room, you will have to get out there and meet them. It may be time to join a gym and get fit whilst you get 'fit'. So is it really that tricky? It shouldn't be...

If you go to the gym, do you work-out your muscles and nothing else? It can be hard to approach people we like the look of in what can be a fairly unsociable, intimidating environment.
First - invest in some flattering gym gear. We're not talking necessarily about leopard print g-string leotards here - in fact, avoid at all costs. Make an effort to dress to impress, wear flattering colours/styles and ditch those 80's fluoro coloured sweatbands.
Take an exercise class. It's much easier to strike up a conversation when you're both sharing the same experience. As a general rule of thumb - more men take classes such as PUMP, RPM or Spin, more women are to be found in STEP and other aerobic classes. It's always a good idea to vary your routine, good opening lines without the added pressure could involve asking someone if they would recommend that class.
